Helen Smykowski Smith

Helen Smykowski Smith, age 95, of Erie, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 24, 2018. She was born on April 13, 1923, daughter of the late Ignatius and Emilia Truchanowicz Smykowski.

Helen was a member of St. James Roman Catholic Church.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Walter L. Smith; twin granddaughters, Melissa and Michele Seremet; four brothers, Joseph, Stanley, Aloysius "John" and Anthony "Tony" Smykowski; and three sisters, Stella "Sally" Rutkowski, Rose Palucki, and Hedwig "Hattie" Dombrowski.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Walter (Patricia) Seremet of Erie, and Mrs. Robert (Lorraine) Moriarty of Huron, OH; four grandchildren, Christopher Seremet (Cheryl) of Erie, Shannon Knapp (Dan) of Peninsula, OH, Colleen Burgoon (Hugh) of Strongsville, OH, and Ryan Moriarty (Anna "Gabby") of Gainesville, VA; nine great-grandchildren, Kevin and Katelynn Seremet, Fisher and Sawyer Knapp, Zlatka and Bozhidara Burgoon, and Delcan, Liam and Owen Moriarty; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give a special thanks to all the wonderful nurses and staff with the VNA Hospice Services of Erie County, and especially Laura for everything she has done for our Mom.

No calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend a Funeral Mass on Friday at St. James R.C. Church, 2635 Buffalo Road, at 10:30 am. Private burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to VNA Hospice Services of Erie County, 2253 West Grandview Blvd., Erie, PA 16506. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc.
