Joseph E. Darden Jr

Joseph E. "Joe" Darden, Jr., age 82, of Erie, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Ball Pavilion at Brevillier Village. He was born in Sampson County, NC on June 23, 1936, son of the late Joseph and Sally Westbrook Darden.

Joe was a resident of Erie since 1956. He worked in banking for several years before he joined Metropolitan Life Insurance as an agent for several years. Joe retired from General Electric Co. He was a life member of the Erie Maennerchor Club and the Siebenbuerger Club. Joe was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and Faith Lutheran Church. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed attending Erie Seawolves games and classic car shows. Joe especially loved time spent with his grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Betty Burns Darden; two sons, Joseph Darden III and Jeffrey Darden; two brothers, Oscar and Carl Darden; and three sisters, Ruby Cox, Annie Cotton, and Alice Lee. Survivors include his loving daughter, Debbie Sutton (Josh); his son, Craig Darden (Tammy); four grandchildren, Alexandra, Rachel, and Jonathan Darden, and Lexie Sutton; one brother, Gerald Darden (Gail); and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may gather with the family on Thursday, December 27, at Faith Lutheran Church, 5414 East Lake Road, from 10 am until the time of the Funeral Service there at noon, conducted by Rev. Jean Kuebler. Interment will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be designated to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc.

The founder of the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., Constantine "Gus" Dusckas, was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 1915, the son of Greek immigrants. It has been noted that the Dusckas family had a close relationship with the Drake family of oil well fame.
