Jean E. Hermalik DeMay

Jean E. Hermalik DeMay, age 83, of Wesleyville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at St. Mary's Home – East. She was born in Barnesboro, PA on April 4, 1935, daughter of the late George and Mary Letavish Hermalik.

Jean was the Coal Queen of Cambria County during her high school days. She had worked for JC Penneys and Carlisles for several years. Jean later worked as a nurse's aide and receptionist for St. Vincents Hospital before retiring from the Regional Cancer Center following 31 years. She was a longtime member of St. James R.C. Church. Jean enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She absolutely loved and adored Paul Newman.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Harry DeMay, whom she married on August 29, 1953; one son, Daniel DeMay; three sisters, Eleanor Hermalik, Mary Niebauer, and Dot Kostura; and one brother, Jack Hermalik. Survivors include her loving daughters, Denise McQueeney (Gary) and Diane DeMay; two sisters, Joan Overberger, and Aileen Bashista (John); one brother, George Hermalik; seven grandchildren, Darrick DeMay (Michelle), Amy DeMay, Danielle DeMay, Michael McQueeney (Kristy), Tom McQueeney, Tori Rizzo (Anthony) and Josh DeMay; 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the Dusckas-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 5151 Buffalo Road (at Hannon Rd. in Harborcreek Twp.) on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm and are invited to attend a Prayer Service there on Saturday at 9:15 am followed by a Funeral Mass at St. James R.C. Church at 10 am. Entombment will follow at Mary, Queen of Peace Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be designated to Alzheimer's Association – Greater PA Chapter, 1600 Peninsula Drive, Suite 15, Erie, PA 16505.

The founder of the Dusckas Funeral Home, Inc., Constantine "Gus" Dusckas, was born in Titusville, Pennsylvania, on July 22, 1915, the son of Greek immigrants. It has been noted that the Dusckas family had a close relationship with the Drake family of oil well fame.
