- SYMPATHY NOTE
Terrence J. Gallagher
Terrence J. "Terry" "Tort" Gallagher, born September 19, 1956, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2019. His parents, Mike and Stella, preceded him in death, as did his eldest sister, Patsy Gallagher Maher.
Terry spent his last nine months in Erie, with his soulmate, Theresa "Tess" Stout. He leaves behind six siblings, Richard L. Gallagher (Annie) of Carlsbad, CA, Diane Davis of Belmar, NJ, Kitty Gallagher Ferry (Joe) of Springfield, PA, Mickey Bissell (John) of Springhouse, PA, Michael Gallagher (Susan) of Severna Park, MD, and Gary Gallagher (Lynn) of Parkville, MD. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, to whom he was a giant of a man both in stature and spirit.
Terry attended Monsignor Bonner for two years, then transferred to Woodlawn Senior High in MD, where he played varsity basketball for the Warriors and was a member of the All-Star Squad in 1974. He finished his career there in the top ten for the school in points and rebounds. Terry was a high energy dynamo who honed his skills at the courts of Edmondson Junior High School in Catonsville, MD. He played much taller than his 6'4" height and was a prolific leaper.
He returned to Springfield, PA and fell in love with the game of golf. To support this habit, he worked as a caddy for the Aronimink Country Club. Terry had many stories about carrying four golf bags at once. Over the years, he had great adventures on the golf course with his brothers, Rich and Michael, and remained passionate about the game. He was a great golfer with a history of five holes-in-one. He also loved being a car salesman, confident in his abilities to pass on his extensive knowledge of both new and used automobiles throughout the Philadelphia region.
Family and friends may gather at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 136 Saxer Avenue, Springfield, PA 19064, on Tuesday, July 9, from 10 am until the time of the Mass of Christian Celebration at 11 am.
